Why consider children’s hypnotherapy?
Children and hypnotherapy form a natural partnership.
A child’s inherent ability to shift between reality and the worlds of imagination and dreams results in their being able to access hypnotherapy with ease, just as they naturally and unknowingly drift in and out of trance states many times each day.
Whilst working as a primary teacher supporting children with communication difficulties I came to appreciate how overwhelming difficulties and challenges can be for a child, and the impact of this upon the many lives they touch.
I also quickly became acutely aware that children’s perception of their difficulties can be wholly disproportionate to my “outside” adult view. The only way to gain a true understanding of their reality is to strive to join them there.
Children’s hypnotherapy enables this to happen, and as we talk and play together within that shared place, positive, transformative change happens too.
What happens in a session?
In children’s hypnotherapy I use a combination of stories, metaphor and creative imagery to enable the child to begin to think differently about their situation. As the way they think about things changes, their behaviours and actions follow. Within hypnosis your child can not only learn more helpful ways of managing difficulties but also rehearse new ways of thinking and being, within the safety of trance, before taking these new found skills out into the world.
When I work with teenagers and young adults the sessions may include elements of children’s work combined with a more structured approach, that will be more reflective of my adult work.
Every session is uniquely tailored to meet your child’s unique profile including their level of understanding, attention span, level of maturity and special interests.
